Sandoy, the Sand Island

Sandoy, the Sand Island, Faroe Islands.

Immediately south of Streymoy’s southern point, Sandoy is the first of the five “southern islands”. As it’s name suggests, Sandoy is known for its sweeping sandy beaches and, accordingly, this is one of the most gentle of all the islands. But also here there are truly dramatic cliffs, clearly visible in all their majesty approaching the village of Dalur.
The largest population center on the island is the village of Sandur with a population of about 600. Other settlements include Skarvanes, Skopun, Skálavík, Húsavík and Dalur.
