Nuuk (Danish colonial name: Godthåb) is the capital and largest city of Greenland. It is the seat of government and by far the country’s largest cultural and economic centre. Nuuk contains almost a third of Greenland’s population (~17,000 inhabitants).

Nuuk is the Kalaallisut word for “cape”. It is so named because of its position at the end of Nuup Kangerlua, a massive fjord on the eastern shore of the Labrador Sea known for outstanding nature: waterfalls, sea-cliffs, whales and scattered icebergs. Its latitude, at 64°10′ N, makes it the world’s northernmost capital, located only a few kilometres farther north than the Icelandic capital Reykjavík.

Nuuk’s waterfront is dotted with brightly coloured houses against the backdrop of Sermitsiaq mountain. Greenland National Museum and Nuuk Art Museum have absolutely interesting displays. The Katuaq cultural center offers films, concerts and art. The modern building of the University of Greenland, Greenland’s only university, deserve a visit as well.

Southern Alps, New Zealand.

The Southern Alps (Māori: Kā Tiritiri o te Moana) are a mountain range extending along much of the length of New Zealand’s South Island, reaching its greatest elevations near the island’s western side.
The range runs 500 km north to south. The tallest peak is Aoraki / Mount Cook, the highest point in New Zealand at 3,724 metres (12,218 ft) and there are sixteen other points that exceed 3,000 metres (9,800 ft) in height. The mountains are cut through with glacial valleys and lakes.
The Southern Alps lie along a geological plate boundary, part of the Pacific Ring of Fire, with the Pacific Plate to the southeast pushing westward and colliding with the northward-moving Indo-Australian Plate to the northwest.

Lake Ullswater, Lake District, Cambria. England (UK).

Ullswater is the second largest lake in the English Lake District, being approximately nine miles (14.5 kilometres) long and 0.75 miles (1,2 km) wide with a maximum depth of slightly more than 60 metres (~200 ft). Many regard Ullswater as the most beautiful of the English lakes.
It is a typical Lake District narrow “ribbon lake” formed after the last ice age when a glacier scooped out the valley floor. When the glacier retreated, the deepened section filled with meltwater which became lake Ullswater.
